Week 7 - Watercolor Painting (Part 1)

Alright. So for art this last week, we've been working on putting together a great big watercolor painting. Unfortunately, I'm not quite finished yet. For my watercolor piece, I'm trying to replicate this image:

I've not quite put in the time I'd like for this project, so I'm not quite finished yet. Fortunately, I am making progress from the blank piece of paper I started with. Here's what I have so far:

It's 14x11 inches and currently under the working title "watercolor bighorns". Very original, I know. There's still a lot of work to do (mostly with greens), and the picture still has rather blurry look to it, but I'm looking forward to trying to bring out the eye popping color this picture deserves. I'll try to remember to post the the final product when I can find the time to polish up the piece. :)

  5. Oh wow, Megumi, you really took on a challenge here. I love the amount of detail there is, and the sharpness of the mountains. You did a great job shading, and on the clouds. The only thing I would change is I would make the foreground where the sheep are, a little bit more darker. You really did an amazing job. My painting pales in comparison to yours!

  6. I like how the mountains are so clearly ridged. Your bighorns look great already, without any extra detail. If you want to add anything else to your to-do list, I’d consider softening the clouds

  8. This is fantastic. I love the detail you did on the mountain and the way you did the trees in the background. Also the bighorn sheep look great. The way you layered the picture is amazing.

  9. This looks amazing! I love how you did the bighorns! My favorite part is the brown mountain in the back. This is because of all the detail on it. If I had any suggestions, it would be to add a little more detail on the green mountain.

  14. Nicely set up and blended together--you picked a challenging image and applied yourself! It really is a great piece of art and very enjoyable. I would have liked to see some bolder color so it was closer to the original, but that can't overshadow the great style you have!

  15. This is really good. The amount of detail is incredible. The clouds look a bit empty to me, though.

  16. Wow stark work! Sweet job!!! I love your portrayal of the clouds. And how you showed the animals and made them really "FEEL" like living things. Your perspective looks awesome as well! All the advice I can offer you as you did a great job is that you should add more detail. Show off that brush!! Good job!
