Cityscape (part 2) - Deep Thoughts Over the Cafe

Title: Deep Thoughts Over the Cafe
Size: 4 by 6 inches
Here's what I ended up with! There are a lot more flowers than were planned, and the building looks kind of... overrun? Abandoned? I think 'abandoned' is the word I want. I kind of like the wild look though. To me, it blends, if only a little, the ordered lines of a cityscape with the somehow planned chaos of plants.

I find it interesting how many colors I can come up with when I only start with five different colors of water-based oils. Another fun part of this project was doing the two point perspective. I normally tend to avoid the boxy-er shapes and straight lines that require a vanishing point and horizon line, but it was really entertaining to try and get everything to line up properly.

I think my favorite part of this piece is either the tall grey building in the back or my improvised dandelions. :)

  1. This is amazing i love how much detail you put into it with all the plants and every little object. Even the people look amazing but the only thing would be the sun maybe if you gave it more of a faded yellow but all the rest looks amazing especially the detail.

  5. This is really good. You put a lot of detail into it and made it look realistic, and you kept the perspective right on it. You even made the horizon detailed. The building colors are great, too.

  10. I really, really love this piece. It’s very warm and inviting, and your general brushstroke technique is great. I could see this hanging up on the wall of the very same cafe that’s painted in it.
I think something that could be improved upon in the future is the sharpness of your lines. It’s got a really nice fuzzy look to it, but it would interesting in the future to see some more bold color transitions.
Other than that, which is just me being nitpicky, this painting is really awesome. Great work!
